Linpus announces the latest release of its flagship product Linpus Lite, Linpus Lite 1.4

Linpus Lite 1.4 adds multiple user interface choices with the ability to install through its online update function

Taipei, Taiwan, July 29th – Linpus, a leader in the field of open source operating system solutions in the consumer space, announced today the release of Linpus Lite 1.4 for OEMs. Linpus Lite is its highly successful web device product specially designed to deliver a better mobile Internet experience.

Linpus has made a number of upgrades from Lite 1.3. The first of which is the ability to add and remove user interfaces through its liveupdate function. Linpus Lite 1.4 comes with two user interfaces: Simple Mode which is a tab and icon based interface and a more traditional interface through the Gnome desktop. You can easily switch between these interfaces or go through LiveUpdate and remove or re-install based on your preferences.

Secondly, it has added a number of enhancements to the Simple Mode user interface: it is now possible to change the arrangement of your tabs from overlapping to non-overlapping windows. It also allows you to add extra tabs; rename, reorganization and change the theme.

Another item Linpus has worked hard on is boot-time. Utilizing their experience from working on their instant on product, Linpus QuickOS, they have been able to reduce start-up to around 25 seconds for a wide range of hardware.

“Our customers have told us that the key issues here are boot time and usability,” said Rita Jing, vice-president of sales, Linpus. “Our focus therefore with this issue was to further improve ease-of-use for the average consumer and make it quicker to get online.”

Linpus has also added a number of other enhancements:
*Single touch swipe support for most major applications. For example, in the browser swiping can
be used to perform left/right, up/down scroll functions.
*Firefox 3.6 with support for HTML5 in full screen.
*Improved LiveUpdate interface and more free applications that can be easily installed.
*Google Gadget support.
*New installer making it easy to install under Windows or as a standalone Linux OS.
*Greater range of hardware support for things like projectors and webcams.
