Taipei, March 2010 – Linpus, the popular Linux distribution for the consumer PC market, recently announced that it had joined the Open Invention Network (OIN) licensee program. The OIN is an organization set up to deter issues related to patents and encourage innovation around the Linux system.
“As an open source company we believe strongly in the work of the Open Invention Network,” said Rita Jing, vice president of sales. “Their work protecting Linux against patent aggression and in troll deterrence is instrumental to ensuring that Linux can maintain its incredible pace of innovation.”
Linpus has been around for more than 10 years, shipping for some of the world's largest OEMs. It has been a key player in Greater China since its inception, and has recently been steadily increasing its contribution to the worldwide Linux ecosystem. It has been a key OSV inside Meego now for more than two years, shipping one of the first commercial products based on Meego – and they have also recently joined the Linux Foundation.
Linpus said that hope to get involved more deeply in the Open Innovation Network – In turn they hope to be able to contribute back their knowledge and experience from shipping consumer Linux products.
Linpus was one of the first companies to actively address device requirements for less computing power, better battery life and faster boot-up times, creating its web and netbook-centric operating system, Linpus Lite back in 2007. Lin pus Lite was subsequently chosen as the Linux distro for the Acer Aspire One among others. At Cebit, Linpus recently announced the latest version of Linpus Lite in which its easy-to-use tab and icons menus have been reworked to give you the choice to completely organize your applications, your way. You can: add three extra tabs; rename all tabs; add new icons; and move all applications around by dragging and dropping.
