Includes both touch and mouse and keyboard style launchers and tight integration of HTML5 applications

Taipei, February 8th – Linpus, a leader in the field of open source software in the consumer space, announced the release of the latest version of their Linux distro, Linpus Lite. Linpus Lite has a long term, successful track record of shipping with OEMs, being the operating system of choice of most of the commercial notebook shipments of Linux in the last five years. Besides, outstanding support for the full range of hardware, Linpus Lite has always included innovative, customer-focused UI design. The latest edition carries forward this traditional with functionality designed to make the most of the touch screen and other tablet functionality of the newest classes of convertible and detachable notebooks - and, also, deep integrated support for HTML5 applications and cloud services.

The first instance of this is dual launchers. Linpus Lite has both full touch-based and mouse and keyboard style launchers that can be easily swapped between through a menu item on the top bar or a touchpad gesture. Both look and user experience are designed to match whether you want to interact with the device through touch or through your keyboard. In addition, for key applications multi-touch behavior has also been added.

“We felt that the touch and keyboard usage models were distinct and so it was very difficult to combine them successfully in one launcher without losing out on either productivity or mobile ease of use,” said Rita Jing, vice president of sales. “Dual launchers mean you don't have to use touch in a non-touch usage situation and you can successful manage your workload then retire to the sofa and relax.”

Linpus has also worked very hard on web app integration in several ways. Anyone with a Chrome  webstore account can login and automatically sync their chrome apps to the launcher. This makes it much easier to launch these applications as there is no need to go to the browser to find a web app. If you log out of the account and into another then the new applications will then be synced. Also, Linpus has added many web applications to their app center and, like mentioned above, they will also be added to the main launcher and can be installed, deleted, and organized in much the same way as a native application.

Linpus Lite also includes a number of other features that improve speed, ease of use and the mobile experience. Including:

1)Touch pad finger support – 2 and 3 finger gestures to: move between pages, minimize, access right click menu; swap between touch mode and mouse mode, and drag objects.

2)Smart Receive - Updates your email, apps, and social networks even when your computer is asleep.

3)Today panel with useful HTML5 based widgets, including: Clock, News, Weather, Calendar and Photo Slide show

4)Extremely fast boot – Less than 15 seconds.

5)Smart icon support and notifications- Real time weather; patches and upgrades; new app versions, email, messages, detachable media,  and mart connect

6)Quick launch panel for fast network and screen configuration.
