Linpus focuses on optimizing Ice cream sandwich for Intel X86 architecture

Taipei, Taiwan, February 10th 2002 – Linpus, a leader in the field of open source operating system solutions in the consumer space, announced today the latest version of their Android product, Linpus Lite Android ICS. This new edition optimizes Ice Cream Sandwich for X86 tablet, notebook and netbook architecture, leveraging Linpus' unique experience in productizing open source for the consumer device market.

Linpus Lite Android Edition is a value-added version of Android for X86 architecture including: tablets netbooks and notebooks. It is actually split into two versions: one for tablet and one for netbook/notebooks. In the latter case, as Ice Cream Sandwich is principally designed for tablets and phones, Linpus has spent a lot of time to optimize for a full range of PC hardware. For example: power manager, openGL, HDMI out, LAN, BT, VGA out, WiFi, SD card auto-mount, hot keys, keyboard, webcam, resolution and fast-boot – as well as S3 and S4. Linpus has also added their own user interface layer specifically designed to improve ICS usability on a notebook, and deliver functionality that a user expects from that kind of device.

“As Android has become the most popular smartphone operating system and desktop functionality moves to the web we have seen strong interest in the possibility of Android on the desktop from users and consequently our OEM partners,” said Rita Jing, vice-president of sales at Linpus. “Our expertise in shipping our own distribution and MeeGo on netbooks and notebooks, meant we have been able to move quickly to port Android; then to customize to create a great desktop experience.”

In addition, Linpus is working on a version for the Intel tablet chipset Medfield. This version will focus on adding making sure Android makes full use of the computing power of Medfield and will also have many customizations from Linpus, including Linpus Ereader, LiveDesktop and Location Planner applications.
